Chuck Bergman Florida Certified Roof Cleaning and Pressure Washing. 941-698-1959 Charlotte/Sarasota County FL

There are many pressure cleaning companies around. They come and go by the dozens yearly in North Port, Port Charlotte, Englewood, Rotonda and Venice Florida. There are only a hand full of actual "Roof Cleaning" companies. That's because roof cleaning requires all different equipment and there is no need for a pressure washing machine on the job! The roofing manufacturers actually say "DO NOT PRESSURE WASH" they products on all their websites I am aware of. You can read what they say here-

{MAY 26 2017 UPDATE OF LINKS. SOME URL ADDRESSED CHANGED. BELOW ARE THE CURRENT ONES. The link below takes you to a page on my website, with live links to roofing manufacturers, that all say to clean roofs with the method I use! They all also say specifically "DO NOT PRESSURE WASH"

Often, to try to turn homeowners away from cleaning their roofs as specified by the manufacturer, shady pressure washing companies and "Do it yourself" homeowner designed products, will try to downgrade the manufacturer method, by making childish statements like "Don't hire some guy to squirt bleach on your roof" or Don't get a cheap bleach job" etc. They don't want to carry all the extra equipment and don't know how to apply the specified bleach / TSP formula specified to be used by the roofing manufacturers, so they tell scare stories and lie, saying we use pure pool chlorine etc. The maximum amount of chlorine bleach ever needed to clean any roof is 3%-5%. That is a fact!

Other competitors, who are trying to make a go of it in the roof cleaning business, jump on the "Eco-Friendly" "Go Green" Bio-Degradable" band wagons. { Again, the roofing manufacturers specify bleach and none of them I have ever seen, suggest any of these new, SO CALLED Green products. Most claim to use biodegradable, Eco-friendly, Natural, Non-toxic, Organic products. First off, if you ask what is in their "Go Green" concoction of chemicals, you will not find out and it is not on the labels and the guy who comes to your home does not know what it's made of either. They are called "Proprietary Ingredients" Like the Colonel Sanders Fried Chicken Recipe!! The company making the product does not have to tell and the worker is not told.

Let’s look at the real meaning behind the sales pitches of Natural: Environmentally Friendly (Eco-Friendly Chemicals): Biodegradable: Plant Friendly.

Environmentally Friendly (Eco-Friendly Chemicals): Lead is an example of something known to be harmful to the environment, yet it is 100% natural, coming right out of the ground.

Biodegradable: The claim is usually made to sell consumers something many would like to see used, environmentally friendly products. In other words, broken down by natural processes into basic components. By this definition, most chemicals are biodegradable, the biggest difference is the amount of time it takes for each chemical to break down. We all know how long it takes nuclear waste to break down and be safe! Yet, it does in time, so it is actually biodegradable. None of these new chemicals will say how long it takes their chemicals to break down. I doubt, in all honesty, they have any idea themselves!

Natural: Note that this is not a legally regulated term! So it can be used for anything. Most times it is used to describe a cleaner that is manufactured from plants. Arsenic is from a natural plant. Many deadly compounds occur in nature. “All Natural”. What does that tell the consumer about their so called natural cleaning chemicals? NOTHING!

Try as you may, because there is no legal requirement to do so, these companies will not disclose what they actually are using. Instead, they will just throw around the terms above?

Consider also, because the roofing manufacturers do not want to pay to replace your roof, they have done the research and will cover your roof with the supplied roofing warranty -IF- you follow their very specific cleaning instructions and -IF- you listen to their very specific words "Do Not Pressure Wash"

So, don't let some fast talking salesman fool you with happy sounding terms like: Natural: Environmentally Friendly (Eco-Friendly Chemicals): Biodegradable: Plant Friendly etc.

Do like you do with your expensive new car, listen to the manufacturers! Keep your warranty intact!

  5. I'm glad to see that some have benefited and learned from my post! I hate to see folks fooled into buying useless products or being given a "Go Green" sales pitch, just to have someone spray a mixture of laundry detergent or most any soap and the let a pressure washing machine actually do all the cleaning and the damage! Here is a link in my website, where you can go to 3 different roofing manufacturers and read what they say. Also, a Roofing manufacturers association's link, saying basically the same thing.
